Traditionally, you'd find these saucers in bars and bistros across France during the late 19th century and early 20th century. Not just saucers, the price on the bottom or side of each corresponded to a colour painted on the outer rim which would indicate to the waiter the price of the absinthe to charge the customer. All the waiter needed to do was count the number of saucers stacked.
These porcelain saucers are an exact copy of those historical pieces, complete with a hand-painted black rim that has been baked in to ensure the colour doesn't fade and the price in francs printed on the bottom. We love to use these as traditional drinking glass saucers but also as trinket trays for coins, jewellery and notes all over our homes.
