How to Get The New Lake House Look

Lake House Aesthetic

Dreaming of endlessly lazy summer days lakeside with friends? It’s the scent of sausages sizzling on a bbq, smoky fireside chats and a freshly baked cherry pie cooling on a cabin windowsill, and we’re ready for the sun-seeker’s season. While we wait, we’re looking to the new lake house aesthetic for inspiration to satisfy us.

Forget Cabincore with its sheepskin rugs and raw wood beams hiding spidery guests in the cracks, ignore quaint English cottagecore with curtains as frilly as Granny’s knickers, the Lake Cabin look is bold and purposeful, it’s colour drenched and it’s the spot of sunshine we’ve been craving.

Think the rich Falu Red of painted Swedish houses, extra wide stripes and scalloped edges, and distressed wood painted in primary colours. If you’re planning an off grid adventure for your vacation rental this summer or booking a holiday home with a lake view, get out your white linen trousers and your boating shoes because we’re heading to the lake house this Summer.

Trending colours for Summer

Softened primary colours like the Swedish Falu red (the signature colour of rural cottages made from the waste materials of the Falun copper mine in central Sweden), Swedish Blue with its sea-grey undertone, butter yellow and meadow green are liberally splashed onto primitive wood furniture and woven into classic wide stripes and geometric shapes.

But we’re also craving more intense hues alongside it like a satisfyingly garish orange that would make a beige-minimalist cringe and the cobalt in these Ester & Erik candles and new cotton striped tea towels. We’re calling it as the new nautical version of the Red Theory; the bright colour that makes a space look cohesive.

The Principles of Utilitarianism

Take industrial action with our new utility collection that lends itself perfectly to the rustic cabin aesthetic. Gather raw wood furniture that looks like it’s been weather beaten by sea winds like our wooden carpenter benches, cast iron boot scrapers and striped log carriers made from sustainable and hardwearing jute for when you need to carry kindling from the woods to your bonfire for fireside chats.
